On April 23…a protest movement made by...NGO called Justice For All was underway which intends to show anger at the event that Lanzhou tap water was tainted with benzene harming the health of 3.6million people seriously...Yu Fangqiang, director of Justice For All…said…“The fundamental problem is not technology but omission. Veolia is obliged to strengthen the standard management in China, abide by Chinese law and comply with its global standards.” he added. Benzene is an industrial solvent. A large number of inhalation and eating will damage the human hematopoietic system or even lead to leukemia and cancer. However, during this contamination accident, the benzene levels were 20 times than the national limit…The [Veolia] Media Relations official…stated…Veolia takes a stake of 45% in Lanzhou Veolia company and Lanzhou city government accounts for 55% of the shares.
