[DOC] Response by Neil Kearney, General Secretary of the International Textile, Garment and Leather Workers' Federation (ITGLWF) to May 2005 letter from Stefan Van Ende, Director of G.P. Garments, in relation to labour issues in Sri Lanka

...I have repeatedly asked to meet with Mr. Derere and the Board of GP Garments with a view to discussing these problems and reaching a solution that will be both beneficial to the company and to the workers...while the resolution of problems locally is obviously preferable, there are many instances when that does not happen. In such cases, the role of the ITGLWF as a Global Union Federation is to intervene with multinational companies and retailers internationally to seek a solution.
