Filipino workers locked in bitter labor dispute with Taiwanese manufacturer

Allegations

"Filipino workers locked in bitter labor dispute with Taiwanese manufacturer", 13 July 2026

The cause of the [Elizabeth Basas’] stress is...the constant harassment she claims to suffer from the [TaiDoc Technology] after she and several dozen colleagues established the TaiDoc Technology Labor Union (TTLU)...

TaiDoc['s]…employees, many of whom are from the Philippines, have filed myriad complaints with the authorities, accusing the company of long-standing labor abuses...

… labor experts, shelters and eight of TaiDoc's Filipino migrant workers…say…the...company routinely punished workers through forced labor...they say that the company is trying to break the union and silence its officers through lawsuits and intimidation.

TaiDoc did not respond to Nikkei Asia's requests for comment...

…TaiDoc launched multiple defamation and forgery lawsuits against seven union leaders and labor organizers...

They followed complaints submitted by the TTLU…[accusing] the company of multiple abusive practices, including forced labor and the collection of illegal fees...

TTLU [said] many members have been informed by the company that their contracts will not be renewed once they expire...

The ministry fined TaiDoc…for "unfair labor practices"…after determining that management personnel had "instigated union members to withdraw from and dissolve the union."

…TaiDoc dismissed Basas and six other union officials for misconduct. The ministry rejected the company's justification…and ordered the workers be reinstated...
