The Business & Human Rights Resource Centre's Human Rights Defenders (HRDs) & Civic Freedoms programme is consulting with human rights defenders, civil society groups, and investors to deepen our understanding of current priorities and gaps in support for defenders focused on business-related abuses, our programme's impact to date, and how we can further strengthen our action in solidarity with defenders moving forward.

This survey is part of a broader consultation with human rights defenders, civil society groups, investors, companies and business associations to deepen our understanding of current priorities and gaps in support for defenders focused on business-related abuses, our programme's impact to date, and how we can further strengthen our action in solidarity with defenders moving forward. Ongoing work to protect civic freedoms and support human rights defenders continues to be vital; our recent report tracked 604 attacks in 2020 against defenders focused on business-related activities and explored how risks have increased during the COVID-19 pandemic as some governments have misused the situation to further curtail civic freedoms and environmental regulation.
