India: Discussions ongoing about minimum wage for tea workers
Tripartite conversations are ongoing about adequate wages for tea workers in Assam. The government of Assam entered dialogue with the A state level multi-stakeholder consultation was organised jointly by the Assam labour department and national ILO office. The roadmap and methodology for “setting adequate wages” for the scheduled employment was discussed in detail by the representatives of the workers, employers and the subject matter experts, as members of the Committee. The Tea Planters Association of India welcomed the discussion, and has signalled support for an hourly wage model (rather than piece rate).
