“3 workers die after lift snaps, falls 40ft at Hyderabad Jawaharnagar dump yard”

Three migrant workers died after a lift they were using snapped and fell to the ground from a height of 40 feet at a construction site of Jawaharnagar dumpyard's waste-to-energy plant on Wednesday.

The Jawaharnagar police said two persons died on the spot, while the third succumbed while undergoing treatment. The deceased were identified as Suraj Sarkar, 21, Mandal Prakash, and Amit Roy, both 28, all from Uttar Pradesh. The plant is being developed by Hyderabad MSW Energy Solutions Pvt Ltd (HMESPL).

The victims were labourers employed for the construction of a chimney in phase-2 of the power plant. For building the chimney, a temporary lift was arranged…

Police registered a case of negligence causing death, and an investigation was underway.

HMESPL, in a statement, said, "We are deeply saddened by the incident at our construction site, involving personnel belonging to a specialised contractor engaged in chimney works. This kind of incident is unprecedented, and a thorough investigation involving experts is underway to understand the circumstances around the same.
