We, the thirty Indigenous women and youth and other Indigenous Peoples' represenatives from diverse Indigenous Peoples and nations of Bangladesh, Cambodia, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, Nepal, the Philippines, and Thailand convened to call attention to the experiences of Indigenous women and youth and their recommendations for a just and sustainable energy transition.

... We recognise and support the need to immediately transition from fossil fuels to renewable energy as critical in addressing the climate crisis. However, the current energy transition very often negatively impacts us and the environment, including and particularly Indigenous women and youth... Many energy transition initiatives - usually imposed on us in the name of climate solutions and benefit from climate financing and climate offsets - are also causing us harm.

... In Asia - home to two-thirds of the world's Indigenous Peoples, most States do not ensure legal recognition of Indigenous Peoples and their rights as enshrined in... UNDRIP... We are alarmed by the grave consquences of mining and renewable energy projects in our territories without our FPIC, violating our rights to self-determination and to our lands, territories, and resources.

... States [should]... legally recognize Indigenous Peoples and their rights... [and] immediately stop criminalisation, reprisals, and suppression of Indigenous human rights defenders...

... Businesses [should] respect the rights of Indigenous Peoples... [and] ensure equitable benefit-sharing mechanisms for all energy transition initiatives...
