Mexico: Killing of two protesters triggers investigations against Carroll Farms and the Veracruz state police
Two protesters were killed by the police during protests against the operations of Carroll Farms. The company has been accused of various irregularities, including the plundering of water from neighbouring communities, which has affected peasant crops.
The activities of Granjas Carroll have been denounced for several years by environmentalists and communities. After the murders, the state authorities closed down the company for mismanagement of waste water, and other federal investigations have been reported.
At the same time, as the murder was committed by public security forces, the state government ordered the disappearance of the Civil Force, while the Public Prosecutor's Office is investigating.
