Madagascar: Tany Collective welcomes release for lack of evidence of fishermen representatives arrested for protesting against Rio Tinto

"Madagascar - VERDICT: RELEASE IN THE BENEFIT OF DOUBT AND FOR LACK OF EVIDENCE for the two spokespersons of the communities indicted in the context of the demonstration against the mining company QMM (Rio Tinto) from October 30 to November 1, 2021", 13 December 2021

A crowd larger than the one on hearing day gathered to listen to the verdict of the Tolagnaro Fort-Dauphin Tribunal on Monday, December 7th.

CHRETIEN Ratovondrainy Eugène and RAZAFINANAKANDRIANA Simon Bedango were released and given the benefit of the doubt for insufficient evidence. They asked us to convey their heartfelt thanks to all the citizens and organizations who have supported them.

We send them, and the communities they represent, our best wishes of success in their struggle for the satisfaction of their demands.

This is an unofficial BHRRC's translation from French.
