Meta's response on the use of social media to attack defenders

...We take seriously any report that our platforms are being misused to target, harass, or silence anyone—including the community leaders, indigenous leaders, human rights defenders, and climate activists that Global Witness highlights in their reporting. Our Community Standards, which are crafted to help everyone to express themselves and be safe while using our products, include prohibitions on bullying and harassment, violence and incitement, hateful conduct, and misinformation leading to offline harm. We reviewed the cases referenced in this report and removed content that violated our Community Standards. We continuously invest in the safety of communities that rely on our platforms for civic participation. This includes working with civil society organizations and human rights experts in the region to enhance our review processes, expand content moderation in local languages, and develop safety resources for at-risk users. Our approach is guided by our Corporate Human Rights Policy, which reflects our commitment to respecting human rights across our operations.
