Myanmar: Junta Forces Allegedly Target Civilians to Protect Chinese Mine
The resumption of Monywa copper mining operations in Myanmar has intensified unrest, with allegations that the military junta is using these projects to consolidate power through violent repression. Resistance groups and local residents claim that junta forces have been deployed to secure the mines, engaging in systematic attacks on villages, including heavy shelling, arson, and forced displacement of civilians. Protesters accuse Chinese companies of directly enabling military violence by continuing operations under junta protection.
The Business and Human Rights Resource Centre invited NORINCO to comment on these allegations. The company did not respond.
