Neste Oil selected for list of socially irresponsible companies - NGOs blame the Finnish energy corporation for its palm oil production

The Finnish oil refiner Neste Oil is in the running for a somewhat dubious accolade. The company has been placed on the shortlist of the Public Eye Awards 2011. The annual award is given to ”the world’s most evil” corporation. The ranking is based on how irresponsible the corporation’s behaviour has been, while affecting people and environment...Neste Oil was selected for the list as it makes ”biodiesel” from palm oil...The growing demand for palm oil accelerates rainforest and peat forest destruction. Moreover, indigenous communities are driven from lands they have inhabited and cultivated for decades, the NGOs argue. [other nominees: AngloGold Ashanti, Foxconn, BP, Axpo, Philip Morris International]
