Company Response

New Look's response to layoffs at Star Knitwear Group factory

  1. As outlined on both our own corporate site, and the Open Supply Hub, Star Knitwear are an active supplier to New Look Retailers. We have worked with Star since October 21, and their business has seen moderate growth with New Look since then.
  2. We are in contact with the senior management team at Star, who are keeping us up to date with their activities and are transparent on their progress with their business recovery plan. Which has meant the retrenchment of both local and migrant workers.
  3. Our discussions have established that this action has not been taken lightly and is in the interest of the future of the business. We understand this has been enacted with appropriate consultations with stakeholders including government, banks and legal advisers.

Clear communications, and press releases have taken place as would be expected, including communications with their workforce and unions. Star have been transparent as to their activities and efforts to conduct this transition in a sensitive way. We understand and trust that reported actions are being taken to support the retrenchment of workers...

New Look will remain close to the situation.
