Peru: Divergent positions in the Working group on Chinese mining corporation Las Bambas’ project with respect to the criminalisation of community leaders

Following the establishment of the Mesa de Justicia y Derechos Humanos (Table for Justice and Human Rights), to discuss the conflict with the Las Bambas mining project (part of MMG, part of China Minmetals), local leaders request that an amnesty be declared for those people that have been accused of various crimes, such as obstruction of public roads, by companies and judicial authorities. The companies state that it is not possible, while the leadership insists on the matter.
