Peru: Local and traditional authorities of Cusco request derogation from State of Emergency due to conflict with mining company MMG Las Bambas

"Cusco: Regional Governor, Mayors and Leaders of Chumbivilcas Demand State of Emergency Repeal" - October 18, 2019

In the headquarters of the regional government of Cusco it was held a press conference in the morning, in which the regional governor of Cusco, Jean Paul Benavente, the mayors of Ccapacmarca, Colquemarca, Chamaca, and Velille, and the leaders of the communities of Cancahuani, Huniquiri, Idiopa Ñaupa, Japu and Tincurca, along with the president of the United Front for the Defence of Interests of the province of Chumbivilcas (FUDICH), Carlos Quispe;  they demand that President Vizcarra repeals Supreme Decree No. 169-2019-PCM, which imposed the State of Emergency that has been applied since yesterday, October 16, in the communities mentioned, adjacent to the road converted into a mining corridor by the State so that more than 600 trucks can drive from Apurímac, passing through Chumbivilcas, Espinar -provinces of Cusco- to the port of Matarani in Arequipa. They ask that the State of Emergency be lifted so that dialogue can take place with the government...
