Primark's response to allegations of abuses in Myanmar garment factories - March 2023 Update

We investigate every issue brought to our attention about Primark-approved supplier factories and all efforts are made to support resolution of issues – where found to be necessary, remediation of those raised by the BHRRC is either complete or underway. As we continue to work through our responsible exit from Myanmar, we’ve enhanced our due diligence on the ground by doubling the size of our local Ethical Trade team...

With regards to the specific allegations:

- Allegation 1: Our investigation revealed some issues regarding management behaviour. We initiated remediation immediately and this is ongoing.

- Allegation 2: We are satisfied that, on the basis of our audit and investigations, any collection of funds at the factory was voluntary.

- Allegation 3: Our audit found that improvements around health and safety due to the pandemic could be made and an action plan was initiated, including reducing the number of workers on transport at any one time.

- Allegation 4: Our team on the ground identified some incidents of non-compliance with our Code of Conduct and immediate action plans were put in place. Remediation was supported by SMART and the ILO Vision Zero Fund.
