Qatar: Guidance tool launched to promote fair recruitment & employment in the hotel industry

In September 2020, the Qatar Ministry of Administrative Development, Labour and Social Affairs (MADSLA), ILO Qatar Office and Institute for Human Rights and Business (IHRB) published Promoting Fair Recruitment and Employment: Guidance Tool for Hotels in Qatar.

The tool is the result of a series of consultations with 40 hotels through a working group administered by MADSLA, ILO and IHRB to provide hotels' human resource and general managers with sector-specific guidance on three areas:

  1. Defining company priorities & expectations - to strengthen and implement policies and procedures;
  2. Conducting human rights due diligence on service providers, placement agencies and recruitment practices; and
  3. Improving workplace relations - To implement proper grievance mechanisms and ensure worker representation and participation.
