Response by Wal-Mart: Wal-Mart suppliers allegedly bring false accusations against labour leaders, who now face serious criminal charges.

Walmart strongly supports the rights of workers worldwide. To that end we require and enforce a strict code of conduct from our suppliers which is extremely supportive of the welfare and rights of workers. As the world’s largest company and purchaser of manufactured goods, we believe that our ethical standards will serve as an example and proactively set a standard that drives positive change for workers around the world...As for the Bangladesh situation in particular, we strongly believe that creating an environment that is supportive of workers involves a commitment from all stakeholders – from the local government to our NGO partners such as the ILO Better Works program. These partnerships have successfully resolved such matters in a number of countries around the world.
