Accidents and emergencies at Russian mines in 2023–2024, 15 January 2024

On January 15, a partial flooding occurred at a depth of 600 meters in Zapolyarny mine in Vorkuta due to a groundwater breakthrough. At the time, a shift of 60 workers was underground, with three working in the affected area. According to the regional Emergency Ministry, one worker died and another was hospitalized. It was later reported that the hospitalized miner, who had suffered bruises and fractures, died in the hospital.
