Siberian Department of Rostekhnadzor suspends blasting permit at EVRAZ ZSMK’s Sheregesh Mine, 6 May 2025
On 5 May 2025, the Siberian Department of the Federal Service for Environmental, Technological and Nuclear Supervision (Rostekhnadzor) suspended the blasting permit at the hazardous production facility “Underground Mine (Sheregesh Mine)” operated by JSC EVRAZ ZSMK. The decision followed notification of a workplace accident that occurred on 30 April 2025 involving a respirator operator from the “Siberia and Altai Paramilitary Mine Rescue Unit” branch of the Federal State Unitary Enterprise “Paramilitary Mine Rescue Service,” who was injured while carrying out technical work to service a mass blast due to a clay outflow of up to 500 cubic meters.
Given the identified violations posing an immediate threat to life and health, a protocol was drawn up imposing a temporary ban on mining operations at the “New Sheregesh” section of EVRAZ ZSMK’s Sheregesh Mine. The case materials were submitted to the court.
By a ruling dated 5 May 2025, the Tashtagol City Court of the Kemerovo Region suspended mining operations at the +185 m level at the “New Sheregesh” section of EVRAZ ZSMK’s Sheregesh Mine for a period of 90 days.
