Saudi Arabia: Contracting giant Nasser S. Al-Hajiri faces allegations of wage non-payment in "biggest" such case filed in India

Nasser S. Al-Hajiri, one of Saudi Arabia's largest construction contractors, is facing more than 660 complaints from workers laid off as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic who have filed a case with the Indian government and NGO Lawyers Beyond Borders over alleged unpaid wages. All of the workers had been at the company for at least 5 years, most stated that they had been asked to sign documents or papers they didn't understand to obtain their passports and air tickets.

The workers were forced to return home without their dues. They are now bring a collective case against the company, who Reuters asked to respond to the allegations but who did not.

The case highlights the plight of thousands of migrant workers in the Gulf who have been laid off during the COVID-19 pandemic and been unable to claim their owed wages, end-of-service benefits or other dues. Many have been forced to return to their home countries without what is owed.
