Serbia: One dead, three injured as crane collapses at bridge project involving PowerChina and CSCEC subsidiary; cos did not respond
On April 7, a crane collapse occurred at the construction site of the new bridge near the Old Sava Bridge in Belgrade, Serbia. A crane that was lifting a large metal structure suddenly collapsed, killing one Chinese migrant worker and injuring three others. Preliminary information suggests the accident may have been caused by a collision that occurred while the load was being moved. Reports indicate that the project involved primarily Chinese companies, with Powerchina serving as the general contractor and a subsidiary of China State Construction Engineering Corporation (CSCEC) responsible for component manufacturing. A separate source from China indicates the subsidiary responsible for the component manufacturing is China Construction Steel Structure Corp Ltd.
The Business and Human Rights Centre had reached out to Powerchina and China Construction Steel Structure Corp Ltd for comments. They did not respond.
