SONAE Group's response re. Temasa – Têxtil do Marco insolvency

We acknowledge the recent reports concerning the insolvency of Temasa – Têxtil do Marco and the subsequent impact on its workforce. However, it is important to clarify SONAE Group’s position and the context in which our relationship with Temasa developed.

SONAE, through its different brands, was indeed a client of Temasa – Têxtil do Marco and consistently fulfilled all its contractual obligations in a timely and professional manner. Over time, due to a combination of market dynamics, commercial considerations, and strategic shifts, there was a gradual phase-out of SONAE’s production activities at Temasa – Têxtil do Marco. This ultimately led to the cessation of the commercial relationship between the two parties.

It is also important to note that SONAE had no operational, managerial, or financial control over Temasa – Têxtil do Marco following the sale. Consequently, SONAE bears no responsibility for the decisions or circumstances that led to the company’s insolvency, including those related to internal management practices, working conditions, or financial obligations to employees.

Nonetheless...SONAE has taken the initiative to support affected workers from Temasa. We are currently working with some of them to explore potential opportunities for employment within SONAE’s businesses located in the region...
