Telegram: Study reveals Telegram's bots role in enabling growth & management of online communities of Islamic State sympathizers

On April 2023, the Global Network on extremism & Technology published an article based on a study that used network science to expose how the Islamic State exploits bots on Telegram to coordinate sympathisers, curate their community, and amplify their propaganda. The article and study conclude, that Telegram plays an essential role in enabling the growth and management of a large online community of terrorism sympathisers by allowing the Islamic State to exploit bots that perform three main functions, including promoting propaganda, moderating discussions, and administering groups on Telegram.

The Business & Human Rights Resource Centre invited Telegram to respond to this allegation. Telegram did not respond.
