The Torch Hotel Doha's response to allegations of denying accommodation to gay couples

RE: The Torch Doha in our Weekly Update

Sunday, 15 May 2022 at 1:18 PM

Dear Mallak,

Thank you very much for reaching out.

As recently stated by the Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy, the official local organizing body for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™, everyone is welcome in Qatar, regardless of their race, background, religion, gender, sexual orientation or nationality. All fans should feel welcome to book accommodation with the knowledge that the private lives of individuals living or visiting Qatar are respected. Qatar is a conservative country and public displays of affection are frowned upon across the board – regardless of sexual orientation. We simply ask for people to respect our cultural norms, but also emphasize the strong values of respect for individual privacy which exists throughout Qatar.

This statement is strongly supported by The Torch Doha. Please be informed that we have responded to Scandinavian TV requesting their booking dates in the future to accommodate their request subject to the hotel’s availability.

With best regards

Hotel Management
