In 2026, reports revealed that ICE had allegedly been provided with access to investigative tools for law enforcement purposes.
Palantir Technologies was reported to be working on a tool called “ELITE,” which allows users to populate a map with potential deportation targets, build a dossier on each individual, and assign a “confidence score” regarding a person’s current address. This information could have been used by ICE to detain individuals. The company was contacted for comment but did not respond.
Thomson Reuters has allegedly provided ICE with access to its CLEAR investigative tool, which aggregates data from a wide range of public and commercial sources, including utility bills, vehicle registrations, and credit reports, among many other datasets. The company stated that it has “strong safeguards that ensure our products and services are used in accordance with our contractual terms and applicable law.”
In April 2026, a worker filed a lawsuit against Thomson Reuters, alleging that she had been dismissed for raising concerns about access to technology by U.S. immigration authorities. The company stated that they “...take employee concerns seriously and provide clear channels for colleagues to raise issues. We strongly dispute the allegations and intend to robustly defend the case.”
