USA: Roblox faces lawsuits over alleged failure to protect children from sexual exploitation and inadequate safety measures

In August 2025, Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill filed a lawsuit against Roblox alleging that the platform had failed to implement basic safety controls and adequately warn parents about risks to children, exposing young players to predatory behaviour and child sexual abuse material. Murrill accused Roblox of prioritising profits over child safety, while Roblox rejected the allegations and said it was committed to protecting users.

In February 2026, Los Angeles County filed a lawsuit against Roblox alleging that the platform failed to adequately protect children from sexual exploitation and online predators, including through insufficient age-verification and safety measures, while promoting the platform as safe for young users. Roblox sought to dismiss the case, arguing that Section 230 and the First Amendment protected it from the County’s claims. On 24 September 2026, a Los Angeles Superior Court judge rejected Roblox’s motions, allowing the lawsuit to proceed.
