Latin America: NGO publishes portal on Chinese investments and impacts on communities in Colombia and the region

 "What can we do to prevent social and environmental impacts from Chinese investment projects?" - 16 August 2019

...The conference "The growing presence of China in Colombia and Latin America: a dialogue in the framework of 3×3 cooperation" was convened by the Environment and Society Association together with the Asia-Pacific Observatory of the Jorge Tadeo Lozano University and the Colombia-China Chamber of Investment and Commerce. During the meeting, the need to open spaces for dialogue between Chinese companies, financiers and communities for the prevention of social and environmental conflicts in the execution of mega-projects was highlighted... The model calls for exchange and coordination between the private sector, society and the government in the relationship with China, in order to promote the appropriate development of the construction of the three main routes (logistics, energy and information technology) and the expansion of the three channels of financing (funds, credits and insurance). ... The conversation ended with the re-launch of a digital tool on the mapping of mega-projects with Chinese investment in Latin America, which has been developed by the Association “Environment and Society.” The web platform provides information on mining, energy, infrastructure and hydrocarbon projects executed by Chinese companies or financed by the country's main Asian banks in Latin America and the Caribbean.  In addition to the map, the web platform presents information on the Cooperation Agreements between China and Latin America, cases of Territories and communities affected by Chinese investments and analysis and research documents...
