Mexico: UNICEF releases report for the hotel industry to protect, respect & support children’s rights

The hotel industry has immense potential to positively affect children’s rights in Mexico…the greatest positive impact that businesses can have on the most pressing social and development challenges of our time is to ensure that they fully respect human and child rights across their operations and supply chains. Since the inception of the United Nations Guiding Principles ..and…the Children’s Rights and Business Principles, the expectation is for companies to proactively identify adverse impacts of their business and supply chains and to address them where encountered. For UNICEF, it is critical that the voices of children and their caregivers are brought into this ‘human rights due diligence’ process… This report aims to help businesses do this…include[s] interviews and focus groups with over 300 hotel employees in three different locations in Mexico, as well as interviews with more than 50 potentially affected children and with more than 80…experts. We have grouped the impacts on children into the following areas: Decent work for parents and caregivers Child labour and sexual exploitation Community and environment…
