Mining industry is the pits, says report [Bhutan]
[T]he public accounts committee’s report to the National Assembly...called mining in Bhutan...lacking in transparency, following very poor environment-friendly regulations, and violating almost every rule of mining there is. It said that mining operations were allowed before feasibility studies were approved; environment, private property, villages, and roads were damaged because of “reckless” mining; mining waste was not disposed off in designated areas, which resulted in erosion and the raising of riverbeds and, eventually, flooding of the lower areas...Most MPs said that it was critical that the government studied mining activities in Bhutan. They also questioned authorities on the lack of rules in the business.
