Modern Slavery Registry welcomes Independent Review’s recommendations and urges government to act

See all tags

Patricia Carrier, Modern Slavery Registry project manager, said: “This Review highlights the urgent need for action to protect the most vulnerable from modern slavery.

“The Modern Slavery Registry welcomes the Independent Review’s recommendations, many of which we have long called for, including the creation of a government-run registry of company modern slavery statements. We urge the government to act on these recommendations.

“The government could also go further and introduce mandatory human rights due diligence, so companies are required by law to actively tackle the risk of modern slavery in their supply chains.”

The Modern Slavery Registry is operated by Business & Human Rights Resource Centre. The Registry is a free and independent resource and holds over 7000 statements. Investors use it to assess company risks, and consumers and activists can use it to reward leading companies and press laggards to take action. Companies also use it to learn from their peers. https://www.modernslaveryregistry.org/

Business and Human Rights Resource Centre is an international NGO that tracks the human rights impacts (positive & negative) of over 8,000 companies in over 180 countries making information available on its eight language website.
