Myanmar: Child dies, 15 others show symptoms of lead poisoning allegedly due to chemical mishandling by metal factory

Authorities are closely monitoring a metal smelting and refining plant in Myaung Dagar Industrial Zone in Hmawbi township in Yangon following the death of a child from lead poisoning....

...[A] child from the area died after being hospitalised and showing symptoms of lead poisoning.... 

...15 other children in the area, they also found symptoms of lead poisoning.

Samples from near the industrial zone were tested in a laboratory...showed that the metal smelting and refining plant breached regulations on the handling of dangerous chemicals. 

The factory is a joint venture between a Myanmar and an Indian company and employs 120 workers.
