About 100 acres of paddy fields have been buried under tonnes of waste from an illegal gold mine in Sagaing Region....

...Daw Nyein Khaing, a farmer in Laung Min village, said...said she had lost over 10 acres of paddy fields under a flood of silt from the illegal gold mine, and they can't be used anymore.

About 100 acres of paddy fields owned by 32 villagers in Laung Min have been buried since 2016.

...Regional legislator U Kyaw Htay Lwin, representing Homalin township, said that about 60 gold mines have been running illegally on Nattnan Creek for several years.

"Famers want compensation for their losses, but we don't know who should compensate them because the mines are illegal," U Kyaw Htay Lwin said.
