"Kayin plans survey to protect child workers", 17 March 2020
The Kayin State government will compile a list of child workers across the state in a bid to protect them and promote their welfare....
U Min Ko Khine, state minister of Immigration and Human Resources, said the data collection...[i]s part of the state government's plan to reduce child labour in Kayin.
However, he sought to assure businessmen that the move was not aimed at taking action against them. "This is for the sake of the child workers," he said. "So businesses don't have to provide fake information. I urge you to participate in this project."
More than 200 retail businesses and over 570 automotive and motorcycle repair businesses will be surveyed, according to the state government.
The survey will focus on 27 indicators, including the number of child workers and whether they are migrants. It will also inquire about their wages and workplace safety.
