New "Pirate Fishing Interactive Game" tackles foreign trawlers depriving Sierra Leone people of food source & revenue

Al Jazeera launches new tool that allows gamers to learn how to conduct an investigation report on environmental crimes. Watch the promo video here. This game is based on Juliana Ruhfus "Pirate Fishing" investigation, for the Al Jazeera series People & Power, screened in 2012. Juliana investigated how the precious marine resources of some of the world's poorest people are being targeted by industrial-scale pirate fishing operations. Fishing represents 10 per cent of Sierra Leone’s GDP and is a crucial component in its food security. But the pirate fishing activities of foreign trawlers are stripping these fishing grounds so quickly that unless the practice is stopped there will soon be nothing left to develop.

Teachers wishing to use the game with their students can access this Teacher's Kit.
