"ExxonMobil oil spill hits communities in Nigeria: source", 23 Dec 2016

Local communities in southeast Nigeria’s Akwa Ibom state have been affected by a fresh oil spill believed to be from ExxonMobil facilities following repairs and other work done on company pipelines, which were earlier attacked by the Niger Delta Avengers (NDA). Youth leaders in the community told Nigerian media the oil spill was the sixth this year and is destroying the environment, affecting fishing, farming and drinking water...[A]n ExxonMobil spokesperson didn’t decline or confirm the accusation. Instead, he said “we don’t comment on third-party rumor or speculation. However, we remain committed to safety and protection of the environment as the foremost priorities in our operations.”
