In a recent field report, Environmental Rights Action/ Friends of the Earth Nigeria raised alarm over a major gas leakage from an underwater gas pipeline beneath Taylor Creek at Kalaba community, in the State of Bayelsa. The pipeline is operated by Nigerian Agip Oil Company (NAOC). The NGO has demanded that, among other things, NAOC honours a Memorandum of Understanding it signed with the community to provide alternative safe water for use by the community, provide other necessary things such as health related relief materials as well as take adequate steps to carry out integrity checks on their facilities, especially pipelines to ensure that equipment failure incidents are prevented.
