Nintendo to investigate Foxconn deaths

Nintendo is investigating working conditions at Foxconn [part of Hon Hai]…that assembles the Wii console…where ten employees have killed themselves over the past few months…[Foxconn] runs the largest factory in the world…where 350,000 mostly migrant workers toil under “pseudo military” discipline. Nintendo’s investigation…will run in parallel with similar probes by Apple, Sony, Hewlett-Packard and Dell…Nintendo, in common with other large technology firms, has established guidelines for working conditions at the factories to which work is outsourced…Analysts said it remains unclear what the likes of Nintendo, Apple and Sony can do if Foxconn’s factories do fall short of the guidelines.
