Opposition lambasts government on lack of gender equality commitment [Malta]

[T]he government…[introduced] a bill to bring the Equality for Men and Women Act in line with an EU Council directive only after it was threatened by the European Commission that it would be taken before the European Court of Human Rights if this was not done within two months…Malta was placed in the 107th place [of the Gender Equity Index] amongst 130 countries as regards female participation in employment.
