Over 10 Pinoy workers in Taiwan accuse employer of abuse

Over 10 Filipino workers of a glass company in Taiwan accused their employer of abusing them and forcing them to work in harsh conditions at the company’s factory in Taoyuan…Representatives of the Taiwan International Workers Association…[said] a Filipino worker named Michael was found dead in a company dormitory…Taiwan Glass Industry Corp…[said] that while there was room for improvement in its working conditions, it could not accept some of the accusations. Among the charges it felt were “exaggerated” were claims by the workers that they were underfed, did not have access to hot showers in the winter or air-conditioning in the summer and were forced to work in temperatures reaching as high as 60 degrees Celsius…As to claims that a Filipino worker named Michael might have died due to the harsh environment, it said its initial findings were not consistent with that claim.
