Oxfam targets Just Jeans for sandblasting [Australia]

OXFAM Australia is threatening to take Just Group to the consumer watchdog, accusing the retail company of misleading the public on its position on the "deadly" process of denim sandblasting. Just Group, the owner of fashion brands such as Just Jeans, Dotti and Jay Jays, has been criticised for using the sandblasting process...said to cause silicosis, a potentially fatal lung disease...linked to several ill factory workers in Turkey...[Some Just Group] products continue to be marketed as `sandblasted' despite the company denying the use of the process in a statement issued on Facebook last month...A spokesperson from The Just Group said the company has been in contact with its suppliers over the last year to ensure compliance with ethical practices. "The Just Group is an ethical supplier and committed to upholding environmental and social compliance standards throughout our supply base," the spokesperson said.
