Papua New Guinea: Highland massacres potentially linked to land rights over resource-rich land

The murder of approximately 24 people in the Hela province of PNG in early July may be connected to local rivalries over the gold mine near Mt. Kare, according to provincial administrator William Bando.

The mine's owner, Indochine, responded that linking the site to the murders is nothing more than 'speculation'.
