Paraguay Indigenous on New Chapter of Struggle

The indigenous community Yakye Axa in Enxet, one of the 17 ethnic groups in Paraguay, will stage a protest on Monday, in a new chapter of the struggle for the restitution of their ancient land...The deadline set by the Inter-American Court of Human Rights for the devolution of the Enxet habitat or the free granting of an alternative plot of land expired on July 13...The nearly 39,536 acres claimed by the Yakye Axa are part of the Loma Verde agricultural and livestock business, located in President Hayes department. At least 300 indigenous communities...in Paraguay [are] threatened by rubber, timber, oil and gold companies.
