[Excerpt translation from Spanish to English provided by Business & Human Rights Resource Centre]

"Las Bambas: 19 Apurimac community members accused of mining acquitted" - March 2, 2020

...Those involved were charged with the alleged crimes of rioting, aggravated damage, among others, during the social conflict with Las Bambas in 2015. [Judicial authorities] did not find enough evidence against them... They celebrate their innocence. The 19 community members from the town of Cotabambas (Apurimac) who were denounced by the mining company MMG Limited were acquitted. This was the decision of Judge Andrés Abelino Aguilar of the Unipersonal Court of Cotabambas... The judicial process lasted several years and suffered from multiple postponements. This Monday, the Court finally issued an acquittal based on the insufficient evidence against the defendants and the application of the principles of necessary prosecution.
