Peru: UN High Commissioner ask for protective measures for women and men defenders denouncing impacts by companies

“UN High Commissioner for Human Rights recommends Peru to adopt measures for the protection of Rights defenders”

…[The] United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights sent a letter to the Foreign Ministry of Peru with recommendations…[as] part of the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) process…Amongst those recommendations, it’s said that “Concrete measures to secure the protection of Human Rights Defenders should be adopted, including the establishment of a specific mechanism and the termination of a protection protocol”…As it is well-known, many women and men Human rights and environmental defenders in mining zones have been subject to threats and intimidation over their defence to water and land.  …both DHSF and Red Muqui have alerted on constant State of Emergency declarations in mining zones, such as the case of Las Bambas [part of MMG, part of China Minmetals] and Espinar, where police intervention has been promoted with the suspension of fundamental rights.  After it issued statements on this situation and published information on this theme in social media, DHSF has been subject to intimidations by the Peru National Police (PNP)…
