Philippine Congress passes Human Rights Defenders Act of 2018

The Philippine Congress proposed a legislation that will protect the rights and fundamental freedoms of human rights defenders (HRDs). The bill was introduced "in light of the continuing intimidation, reprisal, harassment, and vilification of HRDs and the growing culture of impunity." Among other things, the Philippines’ human rights defenders proposed legislation requires government agencies to act on reports of human rights violation within three days.
