Pilot project to register births via cell phones launched [Pakistan]

United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has launched a pilot project with Telenor Pakistan, aimed at using mobile technology to access birth registration. The project would play a pivotal role to improve citizens interactions through process optimisation, better planning and management of data for the government, and improved health awareness through uptake of mobile-health (m-health) services. This unique pilot project also aims to help create an enabling environment by making the process of birth registration user-friendly, and provide facilitation to citizens and other stakeholders through the use of technology and innovations...In his comments, Chief Corporate Affairs Officer, Telenor Pakistan, Aslam Hayat said Telenor aims to empower societies by extending the benefits of telecommunications through innovative measures to the masses.
