The Inspector General of Police has instructed the commander of the oil and gas protection unit to immediately deploy both covert and overt forces in the Albertine region...Gen Kale Kayihura ordered Assistant Inspector General of Police Abbas Byakagaba to ensure that the presence of the forces is felt, especially in the area where the oil refinery will be built, by this week. The deployment of the special unit comes at a time when some of the 7,118 residents, occupying the land on which the oil refinery is to be constructed, are disputing compensation and reluctant to vacate. There are fears that the compensated residents may fail to leave the land in time, which would delay the construction of the oil refinery...When contacted yesterday, the deputy police spokesperson, Mr Patrick Onyango, confirmed Gen Kayihura’s directive. “The forces will be on ground by next week as per the inspector general of police directive,” Mr Onyango said.
