Updating the Resource Centre Digital Platform

The Business & Human Rights Resource Centre is at a critical point in its development. Our digital platform is home to a wealth of information on business and human rights, but hasn’t had a visual refresh for a number of years.

We will soon be updating the site to improve its usability and better serve the thousands of people that use our site to support their work.

Please take an advance peek at our new look, and let us know what you think!

Thank you,
Alex Guy, Digital Officer

Roles & responsibilities

Lead and develop a new programme for the Resource Centre to increase the transparency and accountability for the construction and hotel industry over their policies and practices on the treatment of migrant workers in Qatar and United Arab Emirates.  Specifically:

  • Research which companies have a major footprint in the region, and seek responses from those companies to a set of tailored questions about the practices they have in place;
  • Present responses, examples of good practice, and specific concerns raised on a dynamic online platform, available in Arabic and English, and conduct analysis of the information gathered;
  • Strategic outreach to the media, in Asia, Europe, Middle East, and North America;
  • Represent and present the project with relevant stakeholders, and consult closely with partners at regular intervals;
  • Manage the project budget and progress reporting.

The project manager will work closely on the above activities with the Resource Centre’s regional researchers, particularly in the context of outreach to companies headquartered in their regions, as well as with the London-based Communications Officer.

The project builds on the Resource Centre’s initial outreach to construction companies in Qatar, profiled here.

Required skills and attributes

  • Excellent, demonstrated project management skills, able to deliver complex projects to time;
  • Fluent Arabic and English, with strong writing and communications skills in both;
  • Commitment to human rights, and understanding of the issues surrounding migrant workers in the Middle East Gulf region;
  • Strategic thinker, able to identify new areas of opportunity and impact;
  • Ability to balance a “can-do” approach with consultation and openness to others’ views;
  • Ability to communicate effectively with partners within both business and civil society.

Desirable: Experience in media outreach, and in working with website developers.
