This study...focuses on working conditions and corporate social responsibility in the Bangalore garment industry...data were collected from eighty garment workers in three industrial areas of Bangalore...This study contains the profiles of factories producing for Tesco, Wal-Mart and M&S...There are around 1200 big, medium and small garment factories in the city of Bangalore with nearly five hundred thousand workers working in these factories. Of these, seventy percent are women, and most are first-generation migrants...More than half of the workers...did not sign any kind of contract...Social audits are conducted in all the factories at the behest of one or the other brand sourcing from the factories...A few workers are handpicked by the management and are trained on what they should say to the “foreigners/people from the buyers”.
